Eight schools in the Gunnedah shire are among 40 in the region to benefit from an additional $100 million of funding for maintenance.

Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson said almost $850 million over four years will be invested in schools including Carroll Public School, Curlewis Public School, Gunnedah Public School, Mullaley Public School, Tambar Springs Public School, Gunnedah South Public School, GS Kidd Memorial School and Gunnedah High School.
The planned maintenance list includes non-urgent planned work such as painting, roofs, floors, carpet replacement, paving upgrades and other maintenance jobs at schools,” Mr Anderson said on Thursday.
“This is the largest investment into public school infrastructure by any state government in Australian history.
“This investment will ensure that every student, in every school, has an equal opportunity to achieve excellence.”

“Twelve months ago we invested more than $1.4 million in a maintenance blitz for schools in the region and today’s announcement is great news for the end of year celebrations."
An additional 900 full-time teachers will also be hired this financial year, building on the 5340 teachers that have been added to the public school system since 2011.
