While it wasn’t the deluge that threw Sydney in to chaos, the New England still got its fair share of a wild weather as the edge of the big low-pressure system battering the coast skimmed the region.
The Leader snapped a good samaritan rushing over to lend a woman their umbrella as she crossed Peel Street.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, Tamworth had received 17.4mm by 5pm, while experiencing gusts of more than 70km/h, which forced Tamworth airport to cancel a number of flights.
Houses across Tamworth were also pebbled by pea-sized hail stones, as were nearby Daruka and Duri, while Tintinhull was pelted with larger hail stones of up to 4cm in circumference.
Up the hill, Armidale got 11mm, however Gunnedah only got a sprinkle of 4mm – but when it did come down, it rained hard and fast, with 1.5mm dropping in half an hour around lunch time.
More rain is expected overnight, however the wild weather will past by tomorrow, with a partly-cloudy forecast, and only a 10 per cent chance of rain.
