Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson said the $372,456 was sourced from the Stronger Country Communities Fund and would make a massive difference to residents and visitors.
“The $96,612 extension of the Werris Creek shared pathway to David Taylor Oval will connect the Freedom Camp with an existing path to the town’s retail and key tourist attractions,” Mr Anderson said.
“Visitors staying at the Freedom Camp will be able to easily access shops for food and supplies allowing them to extend their stay in the area.
“Locals heading to the recently upgraded David Taylor Oval to watch the Werris Creek Magpies may even consider taking the pathway to the match, rather than the car.”
Mr Anderson said $275,844 would be spent on the construction of a brick footpath between Coronation Avenue and Poole Street, which will complete the paving of pedestrian walkways on Single Street, matching what has already been installed between Coronation Street and North Street.

“The improved footpath will provide the people of Werris Creek with an even and consistent surface to the retail centre of town where they can shop, attend medical appointments or catch public transport,” Mr Anderson said.
“This is also great news for the more than 300 residents in that part of town who will use the pathway on a regular basis, including those living in the disability and low-income lodge.”
Liverpool Plains Shire Council deputy mayor and Werris Creek resident, councillor Paul Moules, said the need for improved pathways had been on the town’s agenda for “quite some time”.
“This is such great news for the residents and visitors,” Cr Moules said.
“The extension to David Taylor Oval will mean the kids in town can ride their bikes safely there to use the basketball courts and the cricket nets.”
