The Inverell-trained chestnut gelding, an eight-year-old son of Barely A Moment, surged down the middle of the Good 4 track to beat Luke Morgan’s Medal Afrique by a half length with Paul Perry’s Gadfly a length away third in the feature sprint.
It was Day’s fourth ride on Brotherly Secret and her fourth win.
“She’s actually had six rides for me and hasn’t lost a race for me,” Edmonds said.
“This kid can ride, she’s the best kid I’ve seen in this area for the last 10 or 15 years.”
“She is doing well and her turn in town will come.”
He said the Newcastle apprentice had shown great composure and patience when caught three wide.
“She didn’t push forward but backed off the pace and to do that won us the race,” Edmonds said.
He has high hopes of taking Brotherly Secret to Brisbane next Saturday, and that Day will be able to ride him.
“He does back up really well. After he ran in the Moree Cup he won at Tamworth and did really well,” he said.
“His days in country racing are numbered because of the weight although I thought he was thrown in with 63kg today.”
