Silver Art provided a golden finish to Saturday’s Inverell meeting for Peter Sinclair after Baroque Girl had earlier landed the Moree trainer his second Inverell RSL Sub Branch/RSM Club Diggers Cup (1800m).

The six-year-old poked her nose through in the final few metres and held off the Stirling Osland-trained Exilia Miss, who was flashing home down the outside for a half-neck win in the $10,000 feature.
Sinclair previously had success in the race with Nova but that was “a fair while ago”.
He has had a few starters since but no joy.
The $2.40 favourite, Sinclair said Wendy Peel rode Baroque Girl “perfectly”.
“She sat her behind the speed and when they straightened up she peeled her out and asked her for an effort,” Sinclair said.
And the bay mare obliged.
“She’s been consistent since she came to the stable. Obviously she likes a bit of distance,” SInclair said.
“It was good the club put it up to an 1800m race. Traditionally you don’t find a lot of distance races for country horses.”
It is why he is usually a bit hesitant to buy distance horses.
“If you’ve got a really good distance horse you’ve got to travel a long way,” he said.
He has only had the Sebring-Pearl Ardane mare for a few months.
“I actually train a couple of horses for the Mills’ that own her,” he said.
“I was just at the races (at Talwood) and they said would I bring her home and train her.”
Saturday’s win was Baroque Girl’s second for Sinclair after winning a benchmark 58 over 1600m at Moree earlier in the month.
“Last start at Quirindi she rared a bit in the barriers and missed the start,” he said.
“Once she missed the start they were just too good for her.”
Silver Art is similarly only relatively new to the stables.
”That was his first start back from a spell, and first start for us,” Sinclair said.
“And he went well.”
The grey gelding kicked clear in the straight for a length win over Metre Eater (Colt Prosser) in the Inverell Picnic Race Club Class 2 Handicap (1200m), giving Peel a double for the day too.
Sinclair added that he couldn’t do what he does without the help of Amee Williams and Guy Tribe.
John McLachlan meanwhile returned to his former home base to win the Don Bartlett Memorial Bush Battler’s Cup (1400m) with Thundering Heart.
The race is named in honour of the late former Inverell Jockey Club president, Don Bartlett, and was run for the second time on Saturday.
