Business Connect’s Derek Tink might just be the man for you. His fingerprints are already on three local startup empires taking on the world, and the business advisor believes Tamworth is ripe to continue booming with innovative ideas.
Business Connect is a NSW Government program aimed at helping start and grow small business, and even if you only have an idea in your head and nothing else, he is there to help point you in the right direction, and the first four hours is free.

Mrs Sharock and Mr Vincent are already enjoying the successes of business, after sharing a table with a nomination each at the NSW Business Awards on Friday night at Luna Park, while innovative solar farming startup Wynergy is on the verge of revolutionising traditional farming and energy generation.
“There is about 500 businesses registered with business connect in this region at the moment, and about 250 of those are startups,” he said.
“Innovation is really kicking off in the New England – it is particularly hot at the moment and there are several reasons for that.
“The digital economy has people thinking global – the incubator network like the UNE Smart Regional Incubator is also really helping.
“You don’t need to be in the city – Tamworth has a great record of building successful businesses, but it really is the age of entrepreneurship and innovation at the moment.”
While Mr Tink isn’t expecting people to turn up with a full business case ready to go, he is looking for business owners to work on having a clear and concise pitch deck, and elevator pitch, and is currently running workshops to teach people exactly how to do just that.
“Inside of ten seconds what is your pitch – it needs to be clear and articulate – why and how. Why do you want to pursue the dream you have in mind,” he said.
“You always miss 100 per cent of the swings you don’t take, so at least get out there and explore it.”
