The second time the event has been held, it catered for both individuals and teams and drew riders from all over the region.
Tamworth’s Steven Roberts produced a “super” effort winning the Smash junior solo. He was also the best of the individual riders and recorded the fastest lap of the day on the first of his seven.
Inverell’s Alwyn Miller was the only other rider to complete seven laps and took out the Smash adult solo male from Tamworth’s Mick Sherwood while Inverell’s Jodi Mayled finished ahead of Ann Buchan in the Smash adult solo female.
Tamworth Mountain Bikers president Alyssa Rogan said Buchan stuck with her for the first three or four laps but Mayled just pulled away over the last couple.
Drag the Old Fart won the fast and furious 2+ team and the overall honours, while X-MEN claimed the spoils in the Smash open pairs.
Rogan said it was a great day.
“We came away happy with how the day went,” she said.
“Our goals were around creating a social atmosphere and getting family groups together.”
“Our secondary goal was that any funds raised would go back into infrastructure for the club and club races.”
They are hoping to be able to purchase some new infrastructure for the Wednesday night series.
Rogan said some of the participants used the event for race practice, the club timing it to be a training run for this weekend’s UNE 12 Hours In The Piney. Others just rode for fun, many of them embracing the “super power” theme.
“We had quite a few riding around in capes and tutu dresses. There was an Incredible Hulk, Batman, Superman, a Wonder Woman,” she said.
“And then we had the mutations of a mix of different super heroes.”
