It was a matter of barely an inch for South Tamworth’s Christine Myers and her NSW over-60s side as they claimed the Betty Collins trophy at the Australian Senior Sides Championships.

Donning state colours for the second time after heading to Perth in 2016, Myers won the gold medal she just missed out on two years ago.
“We finished runner-up on a count-back to Queensland. They beat us by one more rink on the overall point score,” she recalled.
It was almost dejavu, NSW clinching the victory on the final end on the last finishing rink of their match-up with Western Australia.
With her game already over, Myers was “watching on very nervously”.
“We had already won our rink and so had the other team. A draw would have been okay for us but they were 17-all going into the last end so that wasn’t going to happen,” she said.
“We won the shot by about an inch.”
“It was very exciting. We were running third going into the last round. WA were first and ACT second.
“Queensland beat ACT, which was good for us.”
She was the lead for her team of four, which won five of their seven games, and was happy with how she played.
As the lead it is her role to set things up for the team.
“You want to get the bowl as close to the jack as you can. Everyone will say a good lead will make or break your game,” she said.
Hosted by Yorke Peninsula, the championships were played at Wallaroo and Moonta bowling clubs.
This weekend Myers will be helping out behind the scenes when South Tamworth host their annual women’s fours carnival.
Now into it’s sixth year the tournament fills up quickly and has drawn 26 teams from around the local Tamworth district, as well as Woolgoolga, Park Beach, Tuncurry, Kurri Kurri, Kotara, Castle Hill, Port Macquarie, Uranga, Armidale and Dubbo.
Teams will play three games on Saturday and two on Sunday.
