Go Team Tamworth!
THE Inter Dominion 2018 dream continues on for Tamworth horse Gottashopearly who is looking to feature in the winner’s circle on Saturday night at Menangle after drawing the 11 barrier in the Congratulations, Charonne and Eric Pace.
The win of Star Of Wonder also presented Julie Hobday with her 50th career win as a trainer and her third training win for this season.
Last Saturday night, Gottashopearly contested the Group 3 Swan Hill Cup from the six barrier and showed gate speed to race outside the leader, with Sydney reinsman David Morris taking the reins, before gaining cover in the one-by-one.
With the race contested over the 2790m, a new track record was set with the mile rate of 1.57.3 being posted.
Doing plenty of work in the race, Gottashopearly finished out of the placings but was not disgraced. The winner Menin Gate was having his first race start since June 2017.
The Williams Racing Team from Tamworth, headed up by trainer Richard Williams and his finance Ashley McKinnon have certainly been gaining some attention with their Inter Dom 2018 campaign for Gottashopearly. Williams featured on both Victorian and Sydney radio through the week – everyone is following the dream for the Williams Racing Team and Donald (Gottashopearly). We will keep our eyes out for the next round of rankings for the Inter Dom 2018.
THE Tamworth at Armidale meeting last week nearly looked like a Ladies Day at the track when the ladies had a hand in producing winners in half of the eight-race program. Lola Weidemann trained two winners with Webby Vanderquack, who she drove, and Readily, driven by her niece Stacey Weidemann. Readily paid $41 for the win.
Stacey kicked the meeting off in fine fashion driving Star Of Wonder, trained at Inverell by Julie Hobday, to a win. Star of Wonder, a four-year-old gelding, broke through for his first career win at race start five.
The win of Star Of Wonder also presented Julie Hobday with her 50th career win as a trainer and her third training win for this season.
Tamworth reinswoman Sarah Rushbrook received The Pub Drive of the Day for her efforts in taking Wecanonlyhope to a win in the Hazells Farm & Fertilizer Services Best Presented Horse Pace for Queensland trainer Warren Hinze.
The remainder of the meeting saw a win for Dean Chapple behind the John Enks-trained Mary Todd Shannon, with the mare filling the winner’s spot for the first time from 17 career starts.
Queensland trainer Dayl March also had a good day at the office in taking out the last three races on the Tamworth at Armidale program with Ykikafil, Our Major Day and Might And Main.
THE Newcastle meeting on Friday night has a multitude of local runners from the Tamworth Club – in fact 11 runners are engaged, which equates to a full race field!
