The number of players mightn’t have been as large as Renee Moon would have liked but the generosity shown by those in attendance made up for that.

Moon, who is the Manilla Bowling Club operation manager, put on Bowl Away Cancer to raise funds for the Cancer Council and the small community pulled their weight.
“It was still a good outcome and we raised $650,” she said.

“We had quite a few donations throughout the day. One of $100 and another of $50.
“We also sold raffle tickets and everyone paid their $10 to play.
”It was a fun day. It was really good.”
Moon said there was the potential of a couple new members coming on board as well.
“There was a couple young girls here that were quite keen and really enjoyed it,” Moon said.
“Hopefully they come on board. Something we really need is lady bowlers.”
Moon said anyone wanting to give lawn bowls a go can come down for a social game on Friday afternoons and Sunday afternoons. Players don’t need to bring any equipment.
Moon also has plans to hold a recruitment day.
