Police have arrested a 33-year-old man who they allege entered the BWS store on Beardy Street at around 7:45pm before threatening the shopkeeper and demanding cash.
Just three hours later police arrested a man on a cycleway on Markham Street and took him to Armidale Police Station.
The man remains in custody as police continue the investigation.
