A LEARNER driver has been refused bail accused of leading police on a pursuit in a stolen car through South and West Tamworth.

The 22-year-old was found hiding in a bathroom of a Tamworth house about 11am on Thursday, police said.
Officers had been searching for the man after he was allegedly involved in a chase with officers in Robert Street on September 20.
The Toyota Aurion was reported stolen in Tamworth between 2.30 and 3pm on September 19, police said.
About 9.10am the following day, officers were patrolling Robert Street when they spotted a male driver behind the wheel of the stolen white car.
Police will allege the 22-year-old man was on bail conditions including house arrest for unrelated matters when he was spotted behind the wheel of the car.
Officers immediately initiated a pursuit when the vehicle failed to stop.
During the short pursuit, the man is alleged to have crossed to the wrong side of the road in Vera Street, causing three other vehicles to swerve out of the path of the oncoming car.

Officers then terminated the chase due to the dangerous driving manner.
Following investigations into the pursuit, the 22-year-old was arrested and taken to Tamworth Police Station on Thursday.
He was charged with take and drive conveyance without consent, police pursuit Skye’s Law and learner unaccompanied.
He was refused bail to appear in Tamworth Local Court.
The car has since been recovered.
