O’Gorman’s Suncraze is one of 10 confirmed runners in the the inaugural race while Sue Grills was contacted to fill one of the slots.
A slot holder approached Grills to discuss the possibility of having three-year-old gelding Burning Crown be one of the 12 runners in the race.
However, Grills said Burning Crown wasn’t ready for a race like The Kosciuszko.
“He’s only just turned three. He’s only a baby. He’s not race savvy enough for a race like that,” Grills said.
Grills did say the 2019 version of The Kosciuszko was a possibility but for the time being she was looking for a suitable race for Burning Crown.
“I’m not too sure at the moment,” Grills said of where Burning Crown’s next start would be.
“He’ll probably go to Sydney for a midweek race.”
On midweek races, Grills returned from Sydney on Wednesday with a second placing thanks to Under The Thumb.
The gelding finished two lengths off the winner Fuel but Grills was still “very happy” with the run.
“The track was a bit wet and he doesn’t really like that,” Grills said.
“Corey [Brown] said he didn’t handle it all that well, got bumped at the 200 and a shoe fell off but tried really hard.”
Grills then continued her good start to the season in Armidale on Thursday.
Along with the one victory with Onya Rosie, Grills also scored three placings on the six-race card.
