Just before 4.30pm, emergency services were called to a home on Peregrine Avenue, Calala, after reports a girl had been pulled unconscious from a backyard swimming pool.
The two-year-old was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to Tamworth hospital, where she died.
Officers from Oxley Police District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
