Scarecrows will be the centrepiece of Kootingal’s inaugural Father’s Day Markets as the community plans to get together for a common cause.

Kicking off at 9am, the markets will include over 70 stalls, including eight food stalls – although Kootingal Recreation Reserve Committee fair co-ordinator Greg Crowe said the scarecrows would be the real feature.
“All the businesses have been asked to bring a scarecrow on the day, with the best to be judged by the public throwing coins into donation buckets in front of each one,” he said.
“At the end of the day the scarecrow who makes the most money wins.”

All money raised will go back into the Recreation Reserve, as well as into the restoration of an old mobile amphitheatre.
“The Kootingal community is growing with the new developments going in, and we realised that we don’t have any big events anymore that bring the community together so we decided to do this,” Mr Crowe said.
“As well as the markets and stalls there will also be live entertainment, as well as a jumping castle and monkey maze for the kids.
“We want people to bring the whole family out for a great day.”
Entry will be a gold coin donation, with gates opening at 9am until 1.30pm.
