The delivery, all the way from the Flemington fruit and vegetable market in Sydney, was made up of off-cuts from several of the market’s stalls. Aussie Helpers team member Dave Moon said the idea came from a market stallholder.
“A young guy by the name of Daniel, who works at the market, came up with the idea,” Mr Moon said.
“It’s a bit different that’s for sure, but in a drought as bad as this one we all need to think outside of the box sometimes.
“To me, I think it is actually really quite nice that people far away from the drought affected areas are sympathising with those going through it and trying to find ways to help.”

Mr Moon said the fresh stock feed would also be supplemented with other feed, such as molasses.
“The reason that this delivery was dropped in just one place is the necessity to get it to the animals while it is still fresh,” he said.
“Once it’s put out in the paddock and out of the refrigeration it will turn quite quickly, so it’s important that we make it go as far as possible.”
The Aussie Helpers team member said Friday’s delivery would be one of several to be made in the coming weeks around the region.
“At this stage we are still working hard on surveying as many farmers around the region as we can to work out their needs,” he said.
“In saying that, we are expecting some deliveries of rice straw in the coming weeks, which will need to be supplemented with some other feed, most likely molasses.”
