A Uralla vet wants to do her part for drought-stricken farmers in her community, and she is starting by putting one foot in front of the other with a community walk.

The fundraising event, entitled Uralla Walks to Buy a Bale, will take place around Racecourse Lagoon from 10am on Saturday, September 9.
The walk is the brainchild of Uralla Vet Clinic owner and veterinarian Jo Hoad.
She said she can’t can't make it rain but she wanted to show support for the local community
“The aim is to raise funds for Buy a Bale to support farmers in our community who are struggling during the drought,” she said.
“I thought it would be good to do a community event because there are farmers who are really struggling and show our support.
“It is also a good chance to get the farmers off the land.
“It is really isolating because it’s a very busy time of year with feeding and shearing but then also watching the stock deteriorate.
“This walk hopefully will give farmers the chance to take a break from the farm and catch up with some mates.”
The Buy a Bale campaign is a nation initiative raising money to buy hay, water and gift cards for farmers and their families affected by drought.
Ms Hoad said there had been a lot of positive feedback from local businesses and community.
“I would be happy if 10 people showed up but if we get more than that, it will be great,” the local veterinarian said.
A sausage sizzle lunch will be prepared by Friends of McMaugh Gardens with coffee and tea available during the day.
The proceeds will be split between Buy a Bale and Friends of McMaugh Gardens.
