About 10pm, a woman contacted a friend after her partner failed to return home as expected.
The friend then retraced the route the 39-year-old man would have driven, which included travelling along Fossickers Way, about 10 kilometres south of Bingara.
The friend located the man’s Toyota utility, which appeared to have rolled, in a paddock.
Emergency services were contacted, with officers from New England Police District attending.
Police believe that, as the driver travelled north along Fossickers Way sometime after 6pm, he negotiated a slight left-hand bend, and swerved in an attempt to avoid a kangaroo.
It appears the Toyota crossed to the incorrect side of the road, left the sealed section of the carriageway, and struck a grassed culvert before rolling.
The driver was located deceased a short distance away.
A dead kangaroo was also located nearby.
Inquiries are continuing and a report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
