Tamworth RSPCA member Marie Fenn said the branch decided to do something different and supply hampers for working dogs and horses to farmers.
“We’ve done a fair bit assisting the community with desexing, we’ve focused a lot on the last two years in preventing unwanted litters,” she said.
“So we thought with the current drought situation why not help the farmers with things that get overlooked like worming, flea treatment and paste for horses.”
The hampers include chaff, insect repellent, worming paste, dry food, tinned dog food and $100 vouchers for the vet.

With 168 cupcakes on offer, there were only a dozen left at the end of the day, with Wildflower Cupcakes and a member of the public making a tray of donations.
Usually the money from the fundraiser goes to rehoming animals, but Tamworth RSPCA want to nip the problem in the bud where it starts, offering desexing help to those in need.
“We want to prevent these litters coming into the system or being dumped,” Ms Fenn said.
“We know for every person we help there’s one less litter.”
