40 sheep stolen from property on the Emmaville Road at Yellow Dam, west of Emmaville, near Inverell

Rural crime officers are appealing for help after the Merino hoggetts were taken from a paddock on the Emmaville Road at Yellow Dam, west of Emmaville.

Police said the mixed sex missing sheep were part of a 160-strong mob and were in full wool and due for shearing in the coming weeks.

The sheep were discovered missing by landholders last weekend, who alerted the New England rural crime unit.

The sheep were fitted with NLIS ear tags with a Y earmark out of the bottom of the ear, officers said.

Police are hoping someone might have seen suspicious vehicles in the Yellow Dam area or might know the location of the missing sheep.

Anyone with information on the theft is urged to contact New England rural crime officers on 6722 0530.

Meanwhile, rural crime officers said two black Angus cattle were found in the Bingara area this week.

Rural crime investigators from Moree issued a public alert on Friday after the stock were found, in a bid to identify the owners of the cattle. 

“If you think they might be yours, please call Detective Senior Constable Bec Peachey at Moree Rural Crime Prevention Team on 67570869,” a NSW Police spokesperson said.

“We have not included an image of the cattle as we want the owner to accurately describe the earmark and ear tag so that they can go home to the rightful owner.”
