The winning boys team of Ben Northey-Baldwin, Kaleb McIlveen, Wil Thomas Patterson, Jackson Carr, Jim Muller and Aaron Osmond achieved a team of two hours and nine minutes.
“They blitzed it,” Sport and Recreation Centre program coordinator Peter Chapman said.
“Some of them were back-to-back champions.”
The winning girls team was Willoughby Girls High School with two hours and forty-three minutes. The mixed category and the open category were won by Gunnedah High School.
More than 340 teenagers tackled a massive course including a five-kilometre run, two-kilometre log and cinder block carry, slip ‘n’ slide, and an eight-kilometre 40-obstacle course with a mud run.
St Mary’s College, Gunnedah High School, Oxley High School, Burwood Girls High School, Willoughby Girls High School, Trangie Central School, Forbes High School, Merriwa Central School, Cabramatta High School, Bellfield College and Woolgoolga High School tackled the physical challenge.
“Asking a few of the participants, they definitely said it was harder this year,” Mr Chapman said.
“We love it. It was a good day.”
The program coordinator said the challenge has been running at the Sport and Recreation Centre for five years now.
“It all started we had one of the fellows who used to work out here [James Turton]," he said.
“He was going to Battle PT in Gunnedah and they were all gearing up for a big event, so James said, ‘Why don’t we have one out here?’, and they started the Winter Warrior.”

Mr Chapman said the obstacle course wasn’t part of the first year and Sydney schools have been participating for the last four years.
“We started building the course in January 2016 and it’s been an ongoing thing ever since,” he said.
“It takes us a good couple of months beforehand to get things in place.”
Keepit won’t quieten just yet, with Keepit Kommando scheduled for Sunday.
Almost 200 participants of all ages from Gunnedah, Inverell, Tamworth, Narrabri, Muswellbrook and Moree are already registered for the obstacle course
“We started that one two years ago and we went from 70 people the first year to about 150 last year to about 200 this year. I reckon we’ll get about 250,” Mr Chapman said.
“Come and have some fun.”
