The whole of NSW has been declared as drought affected and one of the state’s biggest regional sporting bodies has thrown their support behind drought relief efforts.

Zones within the NSW Country Rugby Union will be collecting donations during their respective finals series for the NSW Farmers Drought Relief Fund.

Fundraising buckets will be set up around the grounds across the state and donations will be put towards grocery vouchers for drought affected farmers.
New England Rugby’s Luke Stephen applauded the decision by the sport’s governing body to get behind the initiative.
“It is not just rugby players that come off farms, in those areas the impact of sport in bringing communities together which in times like this is so important,” he said.
“That is the big thing for New England.
“We only have a couple of clubs but our reach is so much further when you look at former players and players in the zone whose parents or themselves who are tied up with the rural industry.
“It is an important cause across the whole of Country Rugby and showing that we care.”
