So when Regina Weldon posted her 'rain man' gauge on social media she was inundated with positive responses by farmers.
"I've been blown away by the responses I suppose it's something lighter than the images of lambs with ribs poking out," Mrs Weldon said.
Mrs Weldon, who lives 14km west of Dubbo on a small farm, has carted 26,000 litres of water for household use in the last eight weeks.

"Our dams are dry, we got rid of the last of our cattle eight weeks ago," she said.
On Friday the gauge recorded 4mm of rain and 9mm on Monday.
