Just before 8.30am on Wednesday, August 1, the driver reportedly saw smoke rising from the bonnet of the B-double while driving along Paramellowa Street, Pallamallawa. When he stopped to inspect the cause, the truck caught alight.
Moree Fire and Rescue were called to the scene at about 8.30am. When firefighters arrived a Rural Fire Service bulk water carrier was already on scene suppressing the fire.
A fire truck from Gravesend also attended the scene.
Firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control in 45 minutes, preventing the fire from reaching the cotton seed in the back of the trailer, as well as from catching 1,000 litres of diesel.
Emergency services were preparing to evacuate residents nearby if the diesel caught alight.
“It would’ve been a major fire [if it caught alright],” Moree Fire and Rescue station officer Matt Goldman said.
Mr Goldman praised the quick response from Namoi Gwdyir RFS’ Les Rigby.
The cause of the blaze is yet to be determined.
