The York Cup and the National Primary Games are being held, and the Tamworth economy will reap the benefits.
“It will be long 12-hour days over the weekend and I can’t thank enough members who have been working tirelessly this past week to get the cup ready,” Tamworth Hockey Association president Mark O’Connor said.
The York Cup is set to be a record-breaking event with more than 800 players, and 1700 supporters and coaches set to follow.
“This year brings 49 teams from Grafton all the way to Canberra,” Mr O’Connor said.
The National Primary Games (NPG) will also be taking over the Tamworth sporting grounds, with football, tennis, gymnastics, rugby league and netball all being played across multiple sporting venues.

With more than 2000 athletes attending, the NPG its a collaborative effort in terms of volunteers and event organisers.
With the abundance of people set to influx Tamworth, it’s the economic boost that the town will benefit from. An expected $1.7 million is set to be brought to town from both sporting events.
