The 59-year-old from Rutherford died after his Kawasaki bike left the road and struck a tree about midday at the intersection of Ogunbil and Nowendoc roads near Dungowan.
Police said a 56-year-old man from Aberglasslyn, riding a Yamaha motorbike, suffered minor injuries and suspected fractured ribs. He was airlifted to Tamworth hospital in a stable condition and was expected to speak with police on Monday.
His bike sustained damage to the near, or left side, police said. His pillion passenger, a 53-year-old woman from Aberglasslyn, was not injured.
A fourth rider, a 28-year-old from Chisholm near Maitland who was on a Harley Davidson, was not injured.
Police are still investigating the cause of the crash but are investigating whether the motorcyclist clipped a bike that was at the intersection, before losing control and colliding with a tree.
Investigations are continuing and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner following a fatal motorcycle crash near Tamworth on Sunday.
About midday, emergency services were called to the intersection of Ogunbil and Nowendoc Road, about 40km from Tamworth.
Police have been told three motorcycles were travelling on Ogunbil Road, when one collided with the other cycle, left the roadway and hit a tree.

The rider, a 59-year-old man, was assisted by people nearby before the arrival of NSW Ambulance paramedics, but died at the scene.
One of the male riders of another motorcycle was flown to Tamworth Hospital with suspected fractures.
The other rider and one female pillion were uninjured.
Officers from Oxley Police District established a crime scene and will investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
