Souths beat Kiwis the week prior and South United coach Sam Clifton said the results had been pleasing.
“We’re very happy with how we’ve started,” Clifton said.
“We’re happy with how we’ve gone in beating Kiwis last week and then Workies on the weekend.”
Clifton said there had been two major focuses leading into the 2018 competition.
“We’ve just been concentrating on getting our fitness up and working on our basics, really,” he said.
Against Workies, Clifton said it took Souths a bit of time to get through the Workies defence.
“Workies were a bit under-strength but I think it was nil-all at half-time. It took us until the second half to crack them,” Clifton said.
“They defended quite well and in the second half, we persisted and then we started to score a few goals.”
Clifton said there was still improvement to be had.
“We still need to work on our fitness but it is starting to show. We’ve improved from the trials to now,” he said.
