Plucky Girl beat Scone gelding After All That (Rod Northam) by two and a half lengths with Grafton trained Belflyer (John Shelton) another half length away third.
It capped a great day for both jockey James Orman and Edmonds as they combined to win with Cadogan, Mystic Moon and then Plucky Girl.
While Orman was having his first look at the Tamworth track, so well prepared by track manager Lindsay Bowne, Edmonds was returning to an old stomping ground.
Tamworth holds great memories for him.
He trained his first winner at Tamworth (Pensive Mood) and he also won the 2009 Tamworth Cup with Centover when he came from the rear of the field with Ready As to beat the Tamworth stallion in a narrow finish.
Orman always had Plucky Girl well positioned just in behind the leader, Sheiswhatsheis, after sneaking across from his widish barrier.
“It’s been a great day.
“Just want to thank Toby for the chance to ride all of them. They all ran well but that was a great effort from her. She switched off around the back and I was a little worried at the 600m but she picked up and it was never in doubt then,” Orman said.
Edmonds was full of praise for Orman.
“A great ride,” he said.
“He took control of the race and made it happen.”
The Tamworth Cup wasn’t on his radar initially with her.
He was looking for a stakes race but then realised the Cup was now $150,000.
He said he hasn’t any real plan for her now but thinks next month’s Dark Jewel at Scone Cup might be a good race for her.
Northam thinks runner-up After All That will be running at Scone but isn’t sure which race.
“I’ll nominate him for the Country Cup as well as the Scone Cup,” he said.
“He might get too much in the Country Cup and he might not get a run in the Cup.”
It’s a predicament he hopes will sort itself out for his talented gelding who has won five of his 25 starts.
