Driver in serious condition after Scott Road, Tamworth head-on crash; police say investigations continue

Police said a 65-year-old woman, behind the wheel of a Holden Cruz, was listed in a serious condition on Monday, after her condition deteriorated.

She was trapped in the wreckage after the Nissan X-Trail and Holden Cruz collided head-on on Scott Rd shortly before 11.30am on Friday.

On Sunday, police closed the road for a short time to carry out a specialist examination of the crash scene.

The driver of the Nissan, a 48-year-old Tamworth man, was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

He has since been released, police said.

Officers are investigating whether the Nissan might have crossed to the wrong side of the road. 

Police have interviewed witnesses and are investigating whether a medical condition could have contributed to the crash.

No charges have been laid and investigations continue.
