Tamworth FC coach Greg Bartlett was pleased on a couple of fronts by his side’s three-goal Northern Inland Premier League win over the previously unbeaten Demon Knights on Saturday.

Not only did they knock in three goals, but they kept a DK side that had slotted seven goals in their opening two games scoreless.
“The pleasing part was they didn’t score and they didn’t have many opportunities,” Bartlett said.
“Ben Davis, Hamish Migheli and Ryan Davidson were really good in the middle of the park. Ben particularly didn’t let much through.”
Davidson was one of FC’s two goalscorers with Kurt Barrow slotting a double.
“They knocked it around really well, kept it on the floor like the way we’ve been training,” Bartlett said.
“We knew it would be a tough game, and the first half was tough.”
It was 0-all at the break.
Barrow broke the deadlock fairly early into the second half. Enjoying a “reasonably strong” wind behind them, Bartlett said they had the greater percentage of possession and play.
“We were able to play a bit higher, which we like to play. Goal kicks (kicks from the goalkeeper) were going 70m,” he said.

His only criticism was that they weren’t as clinical in front of goal as he would have liked. They probably should have scored three or four more goals.
“But it’s hard to be critical of them when we end up winning like we did,” he said.
“The effort was there right to the end. Even though they were 3-nil up they didn’t slacken off.”
He said there were no real standouts but did make mention of Mick Gay, who played in goals both games and helped FC to two wins with reserve grade getting up 2-1.
In the other first grade fixture, North Armidale defeated East Armidale 4-1.
