Teah Luckwell farewelled by a sea of purple at graveside service in Tamworth, two weeks after her murder in Robert Street

There was a sea of purple as close to 200 people surrounded the coffin for the memorial of the slain 22-year-old on Friday afternoon at the Tamworth cemetery. 

Teah’s brother, David Luckwell, delivered a heartfelt eulogy to his younger sister, who they called ‘Tiwi’ or ‘T’.

In front of her young daughter, her mother, brothers, sisters, extended family and friends, Mr Luckwell described Teah as the “bubbly” girl who “always looked beautiful” and “loved fashion, jewellery and make-up”.

“Teah was bubbly, outgoing, funny and silly at times, and just simply like no other,” he said.

Family and friends carried Teah’s coffin to the gravesite, with Beyonce’s Halo playing in the background as a tribute.

“Teah loved to sing. She auditioned for X-factor a few times, enjoying the excitement and atmosphere that included,” Mr Luckwell said in his eulogy. 

“She also got to perform at several pubs during the country music festival.”

Mr Luckwell said his sister was “also headstrong and stubborn”.

“If she had an opinion she told you, whether you wanted to hear it or not. When she made her mind up to do something, she did it, no matter what anyone had to say,” he said. 

“Above all, Teah was a mum. She loved her daughter more than anything else on earth.

“Thanks to Teah’s love of music, [her daughter] will start dancing along when she hears music or someone singing.”

Homicide investigators were among the mourners who paid their respects on Friday afternoon at the memorial service, as the investigations into her murder continue.

Teah’s body was found inside her Robert Street unit on the night of March 28. The shock death of the young girl, still reverberating through the community.

Mr Luckwell said he was part of “a family in grief, in mourning and still in shock”.

“There is a huge emptiness in the hearts of all of us who loved Teah,” he said.

“We will always feel cheated that you were taken from us so young and yet we must learn to be grateful that you came along at all.

“You left us with a beautiful reminder of yourself in [your daughter].

“We promise that she will have the life you wanted for her and that she will know that you are up in heaven watching over her.”
