Kim Stewart of Al Stewart and Co is heading up an auction at the estate of the late Dr Stephen Richardson and his wife Margaret on Sunday.
Mr Stewart was a close family friend of the couple who recently passed away within three months of each other. They had four children, Roderick, Rosemary, Andrew and Diana.
Dr Richardson was a general practitioner in the city for more than 50 years, delivering three generations of babies, the last was in 1987.
Through their lives, the couple had garnered an impressive antique collection including items dating back to the 1800’s
“Music and laughter dominated many hours gathered around the piano in the living room playing various instruments, singing and pretending” Mr Stewart said.
“In fact, that very piano in the sale, is the same make and model as that in the Abbey Road Studios and used in recordings by The Beatles and Pink Floyd.
“We have 485 lots ranging from large pieces of antique furniture right through to collectibles,” he said.
“The big ticket items are the ones attracting the most attention, but you will definitely be able to pick up some real pieces of history and household items in excellent condition for very little money.”
A collection of artwork and keepsakes from their overseas travels will also be auctioned off.
“An authentic postcard of Lord Byron, signed by him, has created serious interest” Mr Stewart said.
“So too has a beautiful mahogany sideboard, circa 1860.
“The highlight however, could be an ornate timber and brass inlaid writing case, circa 1850, used by the honorable John Richardson in his travels by coach and sea vessel as a member of parliament, merchant and wealthy businessman. He was the founding owner of Richardsons, Armidale.
“Our firm used to conduct an abundance of on site estate auctions but their regularity has diminished somewhat so this important one is exciting.”
The Richardson Estate Auction will be at 156 Napier St, East Tamworth at 10am,Sunday.
