It's an exciting week in sport too as people from Tamworth and region are represented in the Commonwealth games.
See the photos in the gallery above or check out in the hyperlinks below.
RUGBY UNION: Tamworth have dipped their toe into New England rugby but not with the desired result, after reigning premiers St Albert’s College spoiled the Magpies’ debut in the zone with a 42-5 win at Rugby Park on Saturday.
COMMONWEALTH GAMES/BASKETBALL: Tamworth’s Nick Kay has played a starring role in Australia’s second win at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. Kay spent the most time on the court of any Boomer, with 29 minutes, against New Zealand and top-scored with 21 points in the 79-73 win.
RUGBY LEAGUE: The Greater Northern Tigers’ under-18 side have narrowly failed to make the final of the inaugural Laurie Daley Cup, losing 38-32 to the Riverina Bulls in a semi-final clash at Apex Oval, Dubbo.
RUGBY UNION: The 2018 rugby season opener was set under a glorious autumn day in Walcha with the Narrabri Blue Boars travelling almost the same distance as the Rams to meet at John Oxley Oval.
AFL: The Gunnedah Bulldogs’ first game of the AFL North West season has been described as “a bit of a weird one” by coach Andrew George. The match against the New England Nomads at Wolseley Park served as a grand final rematch for the premiership-winning Bulldogs but the day wasn’t one to savour for the home side.
