Tributes flow for Tamworth-raised Anthony Cavallaro, 29, who died while holidaying in Bali

The family of Anthony Cavallaro has travelled to Bali after his shock passing in what appears to be an accident earlier this week.

The 29-year-old, known as Cav to friends, was understood to be holidaying with friends on the Indonesian island when the accident occurred.

Mr Cavallaro was raised in Tamworth and lived in places like Newcastle – where tributes have been pouring in.

Sister Maria Cavallaro posted a heartfelt tribute to Facebook for her only brother.

“It is with the saddest of hearts that we announce the passing of our son, brother, uncle and dearest friend,” she said.

“His family and friend [sic] are with him in Bali and we will be bringing him home for a funeral to be announced shortly.

“He was a true champion in all our eyes. We will miss your quirky humour, and the undercover love you had for us all. “There will always be four forever, that was our promise to each other.”

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT) confirmed Mr Cavallaro’s death in a statement to The Leader.

“The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is providing consular assistance to the family of an Australian who died in Indonesia, in accordance with the Consular Services Charter,” a spokesperson said.

The Newcastle University Rugby League Club also took to Facebook to describe ‘Cav’ as a “wonderful athlete with speed and agility that left opponents grasping for air”.

“’Cav’ passed away in tragic circumstances at the weekend and leaves a great hole in the lives of his family and friends,” the club said.

“As a person, he was one of the warmest and kindest young men you’ll ever meet.

“The University of Newcastle RLFC mourns the loss of one of our favourite sons, and we extend our thoughts to Cav’s family and friends.

“You’ll be missed mate.”
