About 1.50pm on Friday, March 16, a Holden Captiva was travelling north on Marius Street, Tamworth, when the vehicle left the road, mounted the footpath and collided with a brick fence, according to police.
The driver, an 84-year-old man, was treated at the scene before being taken to Tamworth hospital, where he passed away later in the day.
A 73-year-old female passenger was not injured.
Investigations continue, however police believe the man suffered a medical condition before the crash.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
