Academy director Marc Sutherland said the program was designed to give its participants “strength within themselves and their own identity”.
“We come from a strong culture, a strong people and a strong family,” Mr Sutherland said.
“This is about building on those values and turning them into action.
“It’s about acknowledging we have a strong history, and how we can use this to support each other moving forward.”
The academy participates will take part in weekly workshops, one-on-one mentoring sessions to work towards their own self-determined goals and group excursions to do “on country learning”.
The program was made possible through the support of Joblink Plus, along with a federal government grant of $56,000.
