A police investigation is underway into the death of a utility driver at Tamworth on Saturday morning.

Officers from Oxley Police District were called to the intersection of Robert and Nancy Streets, Tamworth, at 2.50am, after a utility hit a power pole and continued into a fence, then caught fire.
The driver was trapped in the wreckage and died at the scene.
Police are now investigating if the driver was the 35-year-old man who owned the utility.
Officers have spoken with a number of people and a post mortem examination will be conducted this week to confirm identity and determine cause of death.
