My goal was really to compete in the same team as my daughter. I haven’t run competitively for 30 years
- Nadine Youman
Kelsie heads off to university in Brisbane in early February.
But before she goes, she will compete in the 800 metre and 400m races at the Country Championships.
Nadine will run in the 1500m masters at the championships.
“My goal was really to compete in the same team as my daughter,” Nadine said.
“I haven’t run competitively for 30 years.”
But that goal nearly didn’t come to fruition with Nadine tearing a calf muscle five weeks ago.
Armidale Athletics club coach and president Jay Stone said Nadine made the decision a year ago to spend more time with her daughter before she enters the next chapter in her life.
“She [Nadine] has been doing a little bit of light training and running,” he said.
“She was a cross-country champion back in high school.”
Kelsie has earned a sporting scholarship and will continue running in Brisbane.
