A MAN remains in hospital after a violent confrontation between two men, which involved a machete to the head and severed fingers.

Armidale police Inspector Chris McKinnon said the incident allegedly started at 7am on December 24 when a 23-year-old man attended a Kennedy Street property in Armidale.
“An argument has occurred between the 23-year-old and a 30-year-old male occupant,” Inspector McKinnon told The Leader.
“The 23-year-old male has smashed the glass door, and forced his way into the premises.
“The occupant has armed himself with a machete and a violent confrontation has occurred, resulting in the 23-year-old male with a wound to his head from the machete.”
Inspector McKinnon alleged the 23-year-old then took possession of the machete, which resulted in the 30-year-old sustaining serious injuries to his arms and hands, including severing off the top of two of his fingers.
Police were called to the scene, but the 23-year-old had already left on foot.
He was found by police a short time later, before both men were flown to a Newcastle hospital for further medical treatment.
Inspector McKinnon told The Leader on Thursday that the 23-year-old man was discharged from hospital on Boxing Day, and taken to Newcastle police station.
There, he was charged with special aggravated break and enter inflicting grievous bodily harm.
“The 30-year-old man is still receiving medical treatment in hospital,” Inspector McKinnon said.
“Police will need to speak to him, and inquiries are continuing.”
The 23-year-old remains in custody in Newcastle, Inspector McKinnon confirmed.
Police believe that the two men involved in the confrontation are known to one another.
