When Adam Greentree left Riverside 2 after claiming three wickets in North Tamworth’s 57-run one-day defeat of South Tamworth on Saturday, he sat on a dodgy chair, in the grimy scene beneath the clubhouse, and lit a smoke.

The 33-year-old medium-pacer has rested his weary bones beneath the clubhouse since making his first-grade debut with Norths as a 17-year-old in the 2002-03 season, and has vowed to keep doing so until the Redbacks win another premiership.
Their last title was in 2012-13, when they reversed a grand final loss to Souths the previous season. Greentree’s jubilation over the victory was intensified by him capturing his best career figures – 11-88 off 28 overs after opening the bowling in both innings, as Souths, put into bat, were dismissed for 87 and 109 in 58.2 overs.
“I’ll never play for another club,” he said, adding: “I can see a couple of premierships for Norths around the corner, and I’d like to be a part of it. There definitely is [a thirst for another title].”
Greentree did not open the bowling against Souths on Saturday. But as the fourth bowler used, he still claimed the best figures – 3-33 off eight overs – as Souths were bowled out for 156 in the 40th over, chasing Norths’ 8-213.
Glenn Lewington top-scored for the Redbacks with a 91-ball 74, while Pete Watson posted 40.
Conrad George (23) top-scored for Souths, while their best bowler was Chris Langston (4-43 off eight overs).
The win means Norths have moved to second on the ladder with three wins, 10.61 points behind Old Boys.
Greentree said Norths had only produced one “complete” performance this season, when they rolled Bective East for 49 at No.1 Oval in round seven and then declared at 3-261, before day two was washed out. Greentree snared his season-best figures – 6-22 off 15 overs. He has taken 14 first-grade wickets at a 14.2 average this season.
“When things happen for us and they do go well, obviously we see the results,” he said. “It's just obviously a matter of trying to make that happen every week.”
