Volunteers rolled out to the monthly working bee on Sunday morning to help plant native trees along the river and provide wildlife with greater habitats.
“We started at the Bridge Street bridge and working our way down,” president Paul Moxon said.
“It’s very much about habitats.
“This area only has 10 per cent of the native fish species that it did 200 years ago.
“The native trees hanging over the river provide 40 per cent of the food of a native fish.”
Tamworth Urban Landcare Group meets at the Peel River behind the skate park on the first Sunday of every month. Everyone is welcome to attend.
