About 200 people from across the region descended on Gunnedah’s Lake Keepit Sport and Recreation Centre for the Office of Sport’s annual outdoor obstacle course.
The participants, aged seven and over, were cheered on by celebrity trainer Commando Steve.
Program co-ordinator Peter Chapman said participants from as far as Inverell, Dubbo, Muswellbrook and Scone tried their hand at the five-kilometre course, boasting four water crossings, a mud pit and 50 obstacles.
“It’s about getting people active,” Mr Chapman said.
“We had a range of fitness levels, with some people walking it.
“The best effort was 50 minutes, and some went on to do a second lap.”
Commando Steve, who earned his title through his individual style of CrossFit training, ran a Commando Kids training session early Sunday morning, before cheering participants on throughout the course.
Commando Steve said it was about encouraging young kids – and their parents – to get involved with physical activity and teaching them the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
Fourteen-year-old Colby Walderson made the journey from Muswellbrook to take up the Keepit Kommando challenge.
“I just wanted to do it so we came up and it was really fun,” he said.
