The 24-year old was on Monday named in the 12-man squad to compete at the FIBA Asia Cup in Lebanon from August 8-20.
It comes after a brilliant season for the Illawarra Hawks, which earned the forward a place in the 20-man training squad to attend last week’s camp on the Gold Coast.
One of several players that will be pulling on a Boomers singlet for the first time, Kay will line up alongside the likes of Olympians David Andersen and Brad Newley.
“It is always the thing growing up that you want to wear that green and gold,” Kay said leading into the camp.
“To represent Australia would be a huge accomplishment.”
Boomers coach Andrej Lemanis said it was a great opportunity for the first-timers to get that international experience, and will serve them well as they progress through the qualification process.
“I’ve been so impressed and humbled with the attitude that everyone came into camp with,” Lemanis said.
“I know how much it means to them to be in a Boomers environment and every time you are around them, it reminds you just how lucky we are to be involved in a wonderful program with wonderful people.”
The Boomers will stay in camp until July 27 before heading to Beirut on August 2 for a series of practices and a lead-in game before their first official game against Japan on August 8.
They then face Hong Kong on August 10 and Chinese Taipei on August 12.
