A MAJOR uproar over Armidale Regional Council’s Tingha boundary adjustment proposal has forced administrator Ian Tiley back to the drawing board.

Inverell Shire Council rejected Mr Tiley’s offer of 393 square kilometres earlier this month,after “a strong sensation” that the majority of Tingha wished to be part of Inverell and that the community extended further than the boundaries of the town.
The issue was revisited by Inverell Shire Mayor Paul Harmon, in a Council meeting on Wednesday.
“In terms of the south west area from Sandy Creek to Georges Creek … neither Council can confidently say which shire people want to belong to,” he said.

Armidale Regional Council will write to 50 households in the area, located south west of Tingha to the border of Uralla Shire, to seek their views.
“It’s in draft form at the moment and will be going out next week … [but] there was no discussion in relation to moving the boundary on the south east side – so he [Mr Tiley] believes he has captured the community interest there,” he said.
Landholders will have 28 days to respond and the majority will rule.
