Tamworth Regional Council signed off on the plans late last month, meaning Lionheart Property Development has the go-ahead for a $1 million refit with new residential apartments, offices, and a basement wine bar and restaurant.
Mark, Peter and Hala Sleiman bought the property, as the directors of Lionheart, in mid-2016.
Stage one of the works will include alterations to the fourth level and the addition of a fifth level for residential apartments. The plan for the second and third floors is for commercial space.
Stage one also includes the addition of a lift shaft, creation of a common foyer and upgrades to fire and emergency provisions.
Stage two will see the north-western side of the building separated out and refurbished, and the basement – once the press site – become a restaurant and wine bar.
The Leader has sought comment from Mark Sleiman about when works will start.
