The four day extravaganza of rodeo and campdrafting incorporates the ABCRA Championship Campdraft and commenced on Thursday with the encouragement and ladies drafts.
They kicked off what is the biggest campdraft they’ve run, Upper Horton committee member Stewart Steiger said.
“We’ve had record entries for the draft,” Steiger said.
“We’ve got 150-odd kids, 180 ladies, 500 maiden and 130 encouragement (drafters).”
He is expecting the big numbers to continue for Saturday’s open and open for open, and Sunday’s novice drafts with entries only closing an hour prior to the commencement of competition.
The rodeo action got underway on Friday with the novice and junior rodeo.
Steiger said entries were also shaping up well for the annual New Years Eve rodeo, which will commence at 4pm on Saturday and feature saddlebronc, bareback, and bull riding.
