About 2pm crews were called to Bulunbulun Rd following reports of the blaze that had burnt out at least 350 hectares by 4.30pm.
Liverpool Plains RFS crews and their colleagues from the Tamworth area were quick to swing into action and jumped into property protection mode.
At least one family actioned their bush fire safety plan and relocated as the fire turned towards them.
An army of neighbours and workers from nearby properties were helping fight the fire late into the afternoon.
Among them was Keegan Manning, who noticed the smoke from the property he was working at, "Durante", shortly after lunch, about 1 or 2pm.
"We've just been putting out spot fires with our truck and water pump," he said.
"It's just (burned) stubble so far, no unwanted crops as yet but it's headed there."
Countless utes from at-risk and neighbouring properties continued to pump water as the fire spread across at least four properties by late Wednesday afternoon.
A plane and helicopter were both also deployed to drop water on the fast-moving and out-of-control fire as it made its way to Werris Creek.
Inspector Tim Butcher from the Liverpool Plains RFS said about 30 firefighters were working on scene and were expected to spend much of Wednesday night monitoring the blaze. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
