For the average woman, items such as a handbag and toiletries are staple items in every day life.
However, some women are not so lucky.
This is where Melinda McDonald and Kelly Eason have stepped in.
The duo are getting behind Share The Dignity’s Christmas Campaign ‘ It’s in the Bag.’
The charity group thought up the idea after they realised while many groups manage the needs of children at Christmas, the same can’t always be said for women who put the needs of others before their own.
On Sunday, November 27 at 3.30pm the two local women will host a get together at Hopscotch Restaurant and Bar.
Local women are invited to the venue and to bring a handbag to donate, filled with items to support women in need.
Mrs McDonald said there was no limit to what you could bring, but the items must be unopened and unused.
Light finger food will be provided on the day.
If you can’t make it to the event and want to donate a bag, Calrossy Anglican School at 140 Brisbane St are a drop off point between 8am and 4pm weekdays until November 25.
“I heard about the charity and was just impacted by how many women in need put their children and families before themselves at Christmas, and I wanted to do something to help,” Mrs Eason said.
“ Share the Dignity are using a really simple idea to show women in need that someone cares about them.”
Mrs McDonald said she was happy to jump on board the bandwagon.
“Kelly had the idea and approached me to help her bring it together,” she said.
“Straight away, Jay and the team at Hopscotch jumped on board, and we’ve been overwhelmed by the support people have shown.
“We’re looking forward to a lovely event that gives us an opportunity to relax, catch up with friends, and do something for someone in need at the same time.”
To join the event, long onto Facebook and hit “going” on the It’s in The Bag event page, RSVPs are essential for catering purposes.
