Cr Murray was re-elected for his fourth term at the polls on September 10 and was elected in the third position behind Mark Rodda and Russell Webb.
But Cr Murray’s first-preference tally from 2012 to 2016 took a significant hit.
The mayor obtained 3207 number one votes in this year’s election, dropping more than 2500 thousand first-preference from his imposing 2012 tally of 5814.
However, no councillors took the challenge to the incumbent, who has served as Tamworth mayor since 2010.
Cr Murray was pleased take up the top job, this time for a historic two-year term, following changes to the Local Government Act.
“It’s very much appreciated,” Cr Murray said.
“I’m committed to meeting expectations for the next two years.”
Councillors also voted to have the deputy mayor’s role re-contested yearly at their first meeting on Tuesday night.
