Aubrey Michael Flick is being held in custody in the Tamworth Correctional Centre charged with stabbing a man more than 20 times in Coledale on August 17.
During brief proceedings in Tamworth Local Court on Monday morning, Flick was not required to enter pleas to the charges of attempted murder and assaulting an officer in the execution of duty.
Magistrate Roger Prowse ordered police to compile a brief of evidence into the case and serve it on Flick’s solicitors by the start of October.
The 32-year-old’s other charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, which are unrelated to last week’s incident, were also set down by Magistrate Prowse for hearing in September.
Flick made no application for bail and it was formally refused.
Flick allegedly attacked a 38-year-old man after chasing him from Glen St into Sue Cr, stabbing him multiple times.
He was allegedly arrested minutes later in possession of two knives, about 12cm in length.
The Leader understands the alleged victim of the stabbing remains in hospital in a stable condition receiving treatment for his injuries.
